EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a potent, evidence-based approach to healing. Life's burdens can significantly impact your mental and emotional state. EMDR therapy offers a secure environment to process recent or past experiences that have left a lasting mark. This method allows your brain to guide its own healing, transforming intense negative emotions associated with memories while retaining the valuable lessons learned. This distinct EMDR approach facilitates a deeper exploration of your experiences, leading to resolution and tranquility.
Helping you process & heal from traumatic memories & distressing life experiences
The goal of EMDR is to help clients reduce the emotional distress and psychological symptoms associated with traumatic memories, allowing them to heal and regain control over their lives.
The primary therapeutic goal of EMDR therapy is to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories or other distressing life experiences. It aims to reduce the emotional distress associated with these experiences, allowing for a more adaptive and resilient response.
Specifically, EMDR therapy targets:
-
Past Events: Addressing memories that trigger disturbance.
-
Current Situations: Handling present-day triggers that cause distress.
-
Future Functioning: Developing skills and strategies for improved coping and well-being.
By facilitating the processing of these memories and experiences, EMDR therapy helps individuals to gain a sense of resolution and reduce the ongoing impact of past traumas.
WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR ME?
Weekly Session vs Intesive Therapy
EMDR:
Weekly
Sessions
Weekly sessions may be preferable if:
-
You prefer a gradual pace: Some individuals find it easier to process challenging material over a longer period, with more time between sessions to integrate insights and cope with emotions.
-
You have other ongoing commitments: Weekly sessions can be more manageable to fit into a busy schedule, as they require less concentrated time than an intensive.
-
You are new to therapy or EMDR: Starting with weekly sessions can provide a gentler introduction to the therapeutic process and the EMDR methodology.
-
You want to build a stronger, ongoing relationship with your therapist: The regular, consistent contact of weekly sessions can foster a deeper therapeutic bond over time.
-
Your therapist recommends it: Based on their assessment of your readiness and the complexity of your trauma, a therapist might advise a slower, more paced approach.

What to Expect from an EMDR Intensive Session
An EMDR intensive is a focused, extended therapy session designed to help you work through deeper issues more quickly than weekly sessions. Instead of spreading out therapy over months, we set aside a half-day or full day to make meaningful progress in a shorter amount of time.
We’ll meet for a 60–90 minute prep session (either in person or online) to:
-
Get to know your history and what you want to work on
-
Make sure EMDR is a good fit for you right now
-
Teach you grounding tools to help you feel safe and in control
-
Plan which memories or issues we’ll focus on
You will also receive an Intensive EMDR Workbook prior to your session. I want to make sure you have everything you need to feel ready and prepared for this experience. This workbook has been created specifically with you in mind. There are some questions to help me get to know you and design an Intensive Therapy experience that’s right for you.
